Mate 20 Pro hands-on: HUAWEI must have got a small light

Mate 20 Pro hands-on: HUAWEI must have got a small light

Big features but compact device.

HUAWEI's flagship smartphone "Mate 20 Pro", which will be released from November 30th, is amazing! Although it surpasses all smartphones in terms of all specifications, it fits in a size that you can easily hold in your hand.

I can only believe that small lights are used in the manufacturing process.

The best touch

As a flagship and large-screen smartphone, I assumed that it would be about the same as the iPhone XS Max or Pixel 3 XL, but the Mate 20 Pro is good for that. It betrayed me in a way.

This is very easy to hold! That's because this kid is pretty tall. The height is about the same as the iPhone XS Max (Pixel 3 XL), but the width is about the same as the iPhone XS (or about the same as the Pixel 3). That's why my fingers can reach the other side without having to pick it up.

And at the same time, there is an indescribably rich feeling. It certainly has a solid weight to it. But that's not all. Hmm...? What is this? this is this...

Unconscious!

Perhaps because you know all the high-tech stuff inside, your brain was adjusting the weights on its own. It was more compact than I expected when I held it, so I imagined how tightly packed the internal parts were.

But I think this is the texture on the back. Of the two colors, the back of the Twilight is an ordinary tattered glass, but the midnight blue has a luxurious and industrial texture. Somehow, it's like shark skin that's gentle on human skin. It's like a little muscular animal, it feels like a meat. I'm not sure.

Anyway, it feels great!

The strongest camera hardware

The strongest camera in the smartphone world, no, the strongest smartphone as a camera? I think there are various ways of looking at it, but the iPhone XS, Pixel 3, Galaxy Note 9, and HUAWEI P20 Pro are often compared. So, in my own image, the iPhone emphasizes overall balance, the Pixel is software unrivaled, the Note is balanced + interesting functions, and the P20 Pro pioneers the night view mode.

The Mate 20 Pro here is a hardware match. A super wide-angle lens that can take macro shots, a 3x zoom lens, and a wide-angle lens camera with 40 million pixels and ISO 102400 that fills the gap. These are spun by HUAWEI's specialty camera AI, and the unique processor Kirin 980 (the neural processing unit built into it) that drives everything. Well, it's almighty.

When I actually took a picture, I was most impressed by the macro. First, please take a look at this.

Mate 20 Pro hands-on: HUAWEI is small You must have a light

And here.

But here we are.

You're too close. I get so close that I can no longer use it as a daily magnifying glass. Just be careful not to get too close and hit your smartphone against the subject. Come to HUAWEI ... According to it, close-up photography of 2.5 cm is possible. Hmmm. This might work for DIY.

Giant Battery Gives Life

The large-capacity 4200mAh battery, which you can't imagine from its compact size, is not just for driving the Mate 20 Pro. Give life to gadgets (if they support the Qi standard). That's because you can wirelessly "power" from the back.

I think it's a big deal at the moment, but if you can charge wireless earphones (cases) that support wireless charging with the Mate 20 Pro, it's pretty convenient.

Pros? Cons? USB Type-C is a speaker

The Mate 20 Pro is a vertically long smartphone with a wide screen. And it's super beautiful! There is a strange sense of detail, and the color and brightness are top class. In that case, I want the sound of the speaker to be good, but this is probably good. The venue was noisy and I couldn't check the sound quality, but the volume was quite loud. And I noticed one thing.

Stereo speakers. This is a good point, but the sound of the speaker at the bottom of the smartphone came out of the USB Type-C port. It's this hole.

From the conclusion, I do not know whether it is an advantage or a disadvantage.

Hope:・Speaker grill is gone.

Concerns:・Volume and sound quality may decrease while charging with a USB cable・It seems to be easy to block by mistake

Is this a so-called matter of taste? Hmm…….

Functions I couldn't try, but I would like to introduce

The Mate 20 Pro's technical dexterity contributes to the above-mentioned rich feeling. We have introduced a large screen, stereo speakers, a three-lens camera, and a large-capacity battery, but it is still not enough. For example, 3D face recognition. Similar to Face ID on iPhone X, it is a method of irradiating infrared dots for authentication. Plus an in-screen fingerprint sensor. I like how it incorporates facial recognition even though it's geeky.

And dual SIM. It's a physical SIM, and you can also use external storage by replacing one of the slots with an NM card (nano memory card). Finally an infrared emitter! Is it a nostalgic nostalgia?

…So, I think you really need a small light to pack so many things into it. And I really like the Mate 20 Pro, which makes me feel the existence of such a dream gadget. Both the vertical design and the shark-skin bag will stick in your mind. I think that Mitchiri is perfect.

Having said that, HUAWEI was developing a small light! Finish the report. See you tomorrow in the video!
