Motorola releases "Moto G5" and "Moto G5 Plus" on March 31

Motorola plans to launch four types of Mods in Japan over the next three months. Mods are modules that extend the functionality of the Moto Z series.

One is "Vehicle Dock", which will be released this spring and will be priced at less than 10,000 yen. The other three were decided to be released in a hurry, and although the price is undecided, there are three charging adapters that can charge Mods, "wireless charging" that can be charged wirelessly, and "turbocharger" that enables rapid charging.

Motorola announced

Of these, the turbocharger can be charged at 30W, and 15 minutes of charging will increase the standby time by 8 hours.

Regarding Mods, Motorola Mobility Japan President Danny Adamopoulos reveals that 43.5% of Moto Z series users in Japan purchased Hasselblad camera modules as a set. Mods that are popular overseas are batteries and speakers, and in Japan, the number of people who purchased a camera module as a set was the highest compared to other countries.

In crowdfunding, Mr. Adamopoulos has held hackathons in Silicon Valley, San Francisco, New York, Shenzhen, Beijing, Delhi, and Bangalore when asked about his attitude toward Mods that third parties are developing and offering. explained that it did. Although there are products that are trying to be offered through the crowdfunding site Indie Go Go, there were no Mods that could be deployed globally, so Motorola has a lot of small startups, and how to develop Mods and develop Mods ideas. He says he attaches some importance to it. In the future, we plan to work with such third parties to reach more users.

As a concept, there are three types of Mods ideas unique to Japan: TV (full seg), FeliCa, and radiation measurement. However, it is still a concept, and we are considering how to provide it to the market. These ideas show that different countries have different needs, and that Mods can address those needs, Adamopoulos said.
