The satisfaction seen from the creator's perspective and how.
A new iPad Pro 12 with an M1 chip, who settled on the conclusion that "I can do anything because I can do anything?".9 inches. But after all, I want to know the impressions of using it seriously for creative applications.
So, I asked an acquaintance's painting and asked me to draw color illustrations with this new iPad Pro, and interviewed her comfort and feeling. The painter Bobobo (@Boblim104) was cooperated.
About completed illustrations and verification items
Let's introduce the illustrations you draw immediately.Eh, is the top image already good?Well, without saying so.
A certain Lightning Absolutely forgiving, "iPhone Dakedayo !!"
In creating illustrations, we asked for "how to use the new iPad Pro performance."In other words, it is an order to make relatively heavy data.
The production environment is as follows.
iPad Pro 12.9 inches (5th generation, storage 1TB, 16GB of memory, M1 chip!)
Apps used ... Clip Studio Paint
Device used ... Apple Pencil (2nd generation) + TBP020BK (numeric keypad used on left -hand devices)
Illustration format ... A4 / 350dpi / RGB 8bit
File size of completed illustration ... 158.4MB (extension.clip)
* After completion, A2 (423).Scale to 9MB) and verify
Strategy to make it heavy Part 1: Increase the number of layers
The higher the number of layers in the illustration, the more load will be applied. In order to experience the power of M1 chips and 8GB memory, we had the layers increase to about 170 pieces.I'm not an empty layer, but some objects are placed.
Even at Apple's recital, I appealed, "Even if you make a lot of layers, it won't be heavy!"As a result, the operation did not become heavy even if there were about 170 layers.
You don't want to manage it anymore.
Strategy to make it heavy Part 2: Increase Kanbus size
Working in the size of the files to be worked in a larger A2 size, not A4, can be even more loaded.Actually, I was going to have a work with A2 / 350dpi, but as expected, the lag occurred frequently, so this time I worked on A4 → A2 size scale up in image resolution, so the file size was greatly large.did.
In other words, it seems difficult to draw crisp and color illustrations with A2 / 350dpi with a new iPad Pro (I don't think this is the case for drawing apps other than Crysta). As a trial, I tried to create a stupid deca size file called B0 (1030mm x 1456mm) / 350dpi, but 2018 iPad Pro 12.A warning indicating a shortage of memory was displayed for 9 (3rd generation, 64GB of storage, 4GB of memory).
There was no memory shortage warning even if a file of the same size was created with a new iPad Pro, so there is a clear memory difference here.Indeed powerful.
2021 model vs 2018 model
Using illustrations (before layer integration) scale -up to A2 size, we have various comparisons with the 2018 model iPad Pro.The file size of this A2 illustration is 423.9MB.As a one -piece crysta picture, it's a rather heavy category, so let's check how much crispness moves for this data.
First of all, from time to load the file. The left side is 2021, and the right is the 2018 model. The app uses the same version of Crysta and has the same illustration data.
The 2021 model on the left is clearly faster. If the file size is small, it is a part that does not make much difference, so if you handle large files, it will be a 2021 model.I don't think you need to be so severe for illustrations for the web (72dpi), but if you want to design the cover and package, the 2021 model is advantageous.
Next, check the smoothness of the pinch zoom.Let's repeat the scales using the insect glasses tools.
Well, both are caught.I hear that the PC version of the Crysta will make the preview smooth when an independent GPU, but the rendering processing does not seem to be much different for iPad.When I moved with a palm tool, I did not feel the advantage of 2021.
Next, let's look at the time required for free deformation processing.Unlike the previous preview, movement and deformation are loaded on the processor. The verification method is to create a margin on the right side of the canvas size → make the entire illustration a layer group, free deformation → move to the right side to confirm.I compared the time after pressing the confirmed button.
In addition, it took more than 1 minute to complete, so it is 4x speed. Please pay attention to the progress bar.
The time until the bar disappears is about twice as faster for the 2021 model! It is exactly where the operational performance of the M1 chip is utilized.Of course, it is a task that is originally done after layer integration, but if it is a 2021 model, it is not enough time to deform at this size. The fever of the body was also considerable.
Finally, compare the drawing lag of the pattern brush. Some brushes take some time from drawing to actually displayed, and this is also a function that affects the processor and memory. With a 2,000 pixel super -large brush, I tried tracing an A2 super -sized canvas.
Although it is a bit difficult to understand due to the frame rate of the GIF animation, there is almost no lag in the 2021 model, and the 2018 model has a lot of lags.If you are worried about the lag of the pattern brush, this smoothness of the 2021 model may feel attractive.
What is the difference in the display ...?
It seems that I hardly understand.According to Mr. Bobu, he did not feel that "Liquid Retina XDR, the beauty is obviously different!"Even when comparing and verifying along with the 2018 model, I did not feel the difference in the level that I could see at first glance.
I knew that there was no difference, and the saturation and brightness of the green were different without being conscious (remarkable when I painted it with R0 / G255 / B0).The 2018 model and 2021 model displays have a color space of DISPLAY P3, but the 2021 model Liquid Retina XDR thanks to the mini LED and optical film, high contrast and vivid continuous gradation. When I displayed an HDR -like picture, I felt that the true value was demonstrated.I wonder if people who are particular about fine grade will be able to take advantage of this difference.
In the case of illustrations, it depends on the style of painting, so it is not always possible to say that "this display is not very effective for illustrations", but you may not feel as good as images and photographers. In the first place, the iPad display is already high performance as a liquid tab application.
Summary: The performance is attractive. But if you draw a picture, you don't have to buy a new one
Mr. Bobobo's impression of actually drawing a picture was as follows.
・ If you use it, there was no problem with the previous iPad Pro (3rd generation). If you want to draw as before, you don't need to be a new iPad Pro.If you want to deal with large data or 3D, it's the reason for choosing the latest model.
・ App is more important for painter than hardware, but even if it becomes an M1 chip, the app seems to be no problem.Crysta did not fall during use
・ All movements are faster, such as auto saves and time to upload to the cloud
・ If the rugs at the time of expansion are completely eliminated, it will feel quite attractive
There is no big difference between the 2021 model and the 2018 model, as long as the illustrations to upload to SNS or make a 32P self -produced book. Therefore, it was not enough to buy a new picture with the iPad Pro now. This can be a good idea to be an active iPad Pro in 2018 ...?
Also, Illustrator ELLYLAND also stated in the video that "the original performance was too good", and in the comments section, "Things are perfect for a long time, and it depends on the OS."So, everyone thinks so.Regarding processing performance and physical hardware specifications, it may be an update with 95 points to 97 points.
So, when I had a new iPad Pro drawing a picture picture, I concluded that "the old model was enough, but I felt high performance."In other words, if you have this iPad Pro, you will be able to enjoy digital picture + all kinds of entertainment and creative without replacement for several years. If you think so, it's a bargain, iPad.
