The first PC with "high resolution logo" "ADIVA", appeared from Abbey

On April 22, Abbey announced the "ADIVA" series of audio PCs that acquired the "High-Resolution" logo mark. The lineup includes two models, the "K10" (model number: AD-K10), which is a set with the Onkyo stationary DAC "DAC-1000", and the "K1" (model number: AD-K1), which is equipped with a high-resolution sound board. A model with an active speaker bundled with each is also available. From the same day, BTO sales started on the company's direct sales site.

The "high resolution" logo mark is a "proof" that it meets the conditions for high resolution equipment defined by the Japan Audio Society in June last year. Since the logo can only be used by member companies, Abbey became the first PC manufacturer to become a member company of the Japan Audio Society. Of course, it is also the first time that a PC with the high resolution logo will be released.

However, the "high-resolution compatible devices" defined by the Japan Audio Society are limited to amplifiers, speakers, headphones, etc., and PCs are not assumed. However, in view of the increase in related products, the expansion of the market, and the specifications of the ADIVA series, the acquisition of the logo was approved. The Japan Audio Society is expected to expand the definition of high-resolution compatible devices in the future.

The ADIVA series is designed to fit the size and design of the "DAC-1000". The front panel is made of aluminum with a thickness of 5 mm, and the surface is hairlined and the switches are also machined. The size is about 215 (width) x 199 (height, including DAC-1000), 295 (depth) mm, which is almost the same size as the mini component system.

The housing is designed to reduce noise and electromagnetic noise and to reduce vibration. The monocoque chassis made of thick aluminum material ensures rigidity and heat dissipation, and the AC adapter is used for the power supply to make it fanless. Since the storage is also SSD, there is no drive unit (= sound output part) other than the optical drive. In addition, the insulator machined from aluminum was also a big deal.

A vibration damping sponge rubber sheet is attached to the joint of each frame, and a washer of the same material is used for the screwed part. Asahi Kasei's non-magnetic sheet "Pulshat MU" is attached to the inside of the case to block electromagnetic noise.

The OS is Windows 8.1, and "foobar2000", which can be said to be a standard high-resolution playback software, is pre-installed. It is said that it has undergone its own tuning and customization.

It is also possible to use a smartphone or tablet as a remote control. With the Web controller "aLink", you can select songs, play them back, and adjust the volume. What is unique is the shutdown function of the PC. The feature is that the PC can be used like an audio device. "The target is users who want to listen to high-resolution audio sources from now on. Anyway, I made it easy to use," said Nobutaka Sakaguchi, president of Abbey.

The stationary USB-DAC that comes with the "K10" is the "DAC-1000" released by Onkyo in 2010. Although it is a product five years ago, it is a high-end machine equipped with dual Bar Brown (TI) 192kHz / 32bit compatible DAC chips "PCM1795". Onkyo's sound board "SE-90PCI" is also installed on the "K1". The DAC chip is Wolfson's "WM8716" (maximum 192kHz / 24bit).

Onkyo's active speaker "GX-500HD" is attached to the model with a speaker. If you select a model with speakers, you can also select "GX-77M" or "GX-100HD" in BTO.
